Overview

Choose Essaouira when you want a whole day away from the resort and time to wander after a guided introduction. The drive includes stops before you reach the harbour, market and Skala walls. Later, the medina becomes your own to explore over lunch and free time. This is not a quick coastal hop: the itinerary leaves Agadir early and starts the return journey in the late afternoon. Keep the evening flexible and bring an extra layer for time beside the Atlantic. Travellers who prefer less driving may be happier with a visit within Agadir.

Good to know

  • Bring comfortable shoes for walking in the medina and along the ramparts.
  • A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended for the coastal sun.
  • The trip lasts around 12 hours, so expect a full but rewarding day.
  • Lunch is not included, but there will be time to choose your own restaurant.
  • Pickup times can vary slightly, so keep your phone reachable after booking.

Lovely relaxed excursion

A very pleasant day out and a nice change from the heat in Agadir. The drive was smooth, and I especially liked the short stop to see the goats in the argan trees, we managed to get a few funny photos. Essaouira itself felt calm and easy to walk around, with the white streets, the medina, and the old port all in one compact area. Our guide was informative without talking too much, which I appreciated. Good balance between guided time and free time.

Well organised and scenic

We booked this because we wanted to see something different from the beach hotels, and it was a very nice choice. The guide took us to the Skala ramparts first, which was smart because the light was good and it was less crowded. I also liked the tea stop on the way, simple but welcome after the early pickup. The town has a relaxed feeling, and even with the market and port it never felt stressful. Everything ran on time, which I appreciate a lot.

Great guide, great views

We had such a fun day to Essaouira, and the guide made a big difference because he was full of little local facts. My favourite part was the fishing port, seeing the men fixing nets and the wooden boats in that bright blue colour. The goats in the argan trees were funny to watch, even if everyone crowded around for photos. There was enough free time for a slow lunch and a bit of shopping in the medina. It felt relaxed all day, no pressure at all.

Good trip, long road

Overall a very good excursion and I would recommend it, but be ready for a fairly long transfer. The best part for me was walking along the Skala ramparts and seeing the Atlantic below, that was worth the journey. We also stopped for argan oil and tea on the way, which broke up the drive nicely. The guide was helpful and had good local knowledge. I only give four stars because I personally would have liked a bit more time in the market area before heading back.

Lovely guided visit

Very pleasant excursion, and our guide made it easy to follow even with a mixed group. I especially liked walking along the Skala ramparts, with the wind coming off the Atlantic and the cannons facing the water. The medina felt smaller and calmer than I imagined, which was nice for a day trip. We also stopped for tea on the way, a simple break but appreciated. Good balance between guided parts and free time, I managed to have lunch and buy a few small things before heading back.

Questions before you book

Does the return time mean arrival at my hotel?

No. The itinerary's 16:00 return entry marks the departure towards Agadir. Allow for the road journey and confirm your expected hotel arrival separately.

Is there time to explore without the guide?

Yes. The programme includes free time in the medina after the guided visit. Agree the meeting point and departure time before heading off.

Should I book another paid activity that evening?

It is sensible to leave a buffer after a full-day road trip. Traffic and stops can affect arrival, so avoid relying on an exact return minute.
